I've been called out in real life for not coming to shows anymore, so I'll just put in my two cents. I liked hardcore and punk because it got me away from people I didn't like in high school. Now I go to shows at the secret haus house and I see people who I didn't like in high school re-invent themselves into people who I still don't like out of high school. Sure, that may make me not part of the "hardcore scene" anymore, but I am totally fine with that label. I am cool staying at home listening to records and going to the one show a month I want to see.

Jeff will make Big Al into a man via roof-top slave labour, so he'll be okay without hardcore.
The only kids I know under nineteen are my friend's children, so I can't comment on why the kids don't care.

Oh and Matt Carr seems like an impossibly-nice dude, and does interesting things musically. Wasn't even pissed to get siracha-bombed. That said, I saw a band at secret haus whose set included putting on lipstick, taking off a shirt, and playing a gameboy.

I`m just gonna go ahead and mention that I still know some dudes who were part of that whole two thousand five miller mosh crew era and still have a fleeting interest in what they perceive to be "alternative" music and have never delved further into underground music than to have really scratched the surface. Insofar as I can tell, some people just aren't that interested in pursuing ideas that are new to them, or listening to music that is new to them, so for someone to allege that this Bradley character is "ruining punk or hardcore" seems to be missing the mark. And I know that some of these people don't have an interest in exploring things musically unknown, though admittedly vaguely familiar, because I've made people like this mix CDs with shit like Wolfbrigade and Punch.
I think it'd be a lot more accurate to say that punk rock and or hardcore has been, atleast nominally, co-opted by bands and promoters that don't give a fuck. It's been that way since before I got into it, and will probably continue to be so long as anything remotely "punk or hardcore" can be considered commercially viable. And of course, as it's part of the DIY punk ethic to tour as a band without a guarantee, and those opportunists who won't pay proportionately based on a sense of entitlement will likely continue to exist, it will almost always work out for those interested in exploiting to fulfill their inclination to make a quick buck, no? So I mean, I wouldn't see an end to any of this bullshit any time soon.
I may or may not be totally out in left field right now.

I like what is going on. Ive been to a couple of these shows now and found that most people actually watch every band despite how bad they are. It was the old hardcore punk crowed that sat outside the whole time like crusty's and their dogs instead of checking out interesting new things happening in our scene. It's time to develop further and expand our musical horizons because it's shows like these, and people like that, that are going to show you your new favourite bands. Wu-Tang forever!

You can't just throw out that people aren't expanding their "musical horizons" (fuck, that sounds stupid). If I have heard something that I don't like, I won't watch it. I am allowed to not like things.

glad that's the only band you guys caught all summer! this thead wasn't for calling anyone out it was just a heads up that the music scene changed so when you actually go to one you don't have to be snarky and say " who are all these people?" they are the ones going to every show for the last four months solid.

And I just wanted to set the record straight with our friend here, who jumped in like he owned the place. For the most part, this city's scene is like it will always be: small and fractured but potent. Thats what we get in a city of this size but with the social/political climate we have. Stoked about all the new bands I'm hearing about. I heard of a new "thrashcore" band called Septic Paste, for example! Cool!

Jennifer Bobette is this crazy promoter who does Manic Mondays at Cafe Chaos in Montreal. Definite juggalo influences, but one of the best shows of tour.

Whatever, you mutants just troll all over these boards claiming our elitist shit. Fuck you. I have tried so many times to be included in your little fucking world and just became fed up with your petty elitism. Hardcore is dead and its bands like Prop Planes, Port Noise, and Cricket that are showing the people what real underground music is. Prop Planes is the punkest band in this town, the rest of you are all just backstage passerbys.
