Let me start by saying that I am a huge propagandhi fan - I think probably the greatest Canadian band, ever. With that high praise out of the way, I like this record less than the previous three. There are great songs (Note to Self, Hadron Collision), but a lot more that seem unfinished or oblique. Dark Matters, for example, should be a great song - but just feels a little off, like it could've used the hundred-more-rehearsals it seems like their previous work has gotten. Lyrically, maybe they're trying to reach more people, but I guess I appreciate challenging songs rather than "Status Update". All of which is to say, I'm a difficult asshole and this is probably one of about three records I'll like this year - it's just that I expect nothing less than a masterpiece every time this band puts together a record, and this time didn't get one.

I feel more and more like the song "The Days You Hate Yourself" should have been on the actual album, and not just some deluxe package thing. It is a really good song that recycles that riff from Rattan Cane, only in an even better song.

Rattan Cane is such a killer song. I don't know of this deluxe song you speak of.

And then there's another version of Failed States.

I've never had much to say about Propagandhi. I still don't. However, this new record is the most enjoyable album I've heard in recent memory. I've passed on their shows almost as many times as I've seen them but I'm looking forward to the gig this week.

I tried to get tickets to the Amigos show tonight, it didn't work. Rehashed rules and I wish I could have gone.

Cassie just gave this album a scathing review..."It sounds like...I don't know...what's that band that plays that song 'Generator'? Bad Religion! I hate that band! And it sounds- what would you say?- kinda sieve-y!" Then she put on the Tarantuja record. I disagree...but well said Cassandra, well said.

Well now we're just right off the mark. Sounds nothing like Bad Religion.

I think, if anything, it sort of seems like a mix of Propagandhi and this Protest the Hero album that Chris Hannah appears on. See, 1:03.
This is really the closest thing I can compare it to. But fuck are the Todd songs on this album good. I mean, "Dark Matters" is fucking awesome.
