I'm having a really tough time wrapping my head around this. Not really what I was expecting, in almost every sense.
I know someone must have some kind of opinion on this based on Xray selling out of it within the day.

That's not so good al I listened to it a few times through, I like a few songs on the record but I'm not really feeling it.

I haven't listened to it enough times to really get a good grip on it, but it hasn't hit me as hard as Today's Empires or Supporting Caste for sure. It's also really weird that the first song is like what would normally be the last song. And I like it better when the Todd songs are the ripping thrash songs, not the soul-searching slow songs (it's about half-and-half on this record.) But there are still some really killer jams.

The first song was weird, but almost everything after that is killer. Way better than Supporting Caste. More speed, more dynamics, better melodies, more frantic, more fun. Supporting Caste was a bit too tame and mature for me.

Weird, I feel the opposite, like Supporting Caste had all the party jams and this one is in more Potemkin territory. Need several more listens.

Yeah, we see things a little differently I think. I love Potemkin. But still, the first two Todd songs are the most rippin ever, and the last 2 do the "soul-searching slow" thing, but with so much more depth. Like number 7 (still don't know the names yet, as I do most listening while driving)?? So good! Especially the second half of the song. But like songs 2-6 are just fucking solid rippers.

There's something about some of Chris's vocals that make me wonder if he started listening to that Protest the Hero album he did a guest spot on. There are parts that seem like they have a weird prog sort of vibe, and I'm not really too sure how much I'm into it. Whereas before, on both Potemkin and Supporting all the very overtly metal influenced parts seemed like they were directly from thrash metal, which I've kind of always been a fan of to some degree.

I had a few listens and it certainly doesn't rank in my top Propagandhi albums, unlike most people i Liked Potemkin better then supporting caste. Especially the first 3 songs.

This album has gotten better with each listen. What bugs me is that in all the reviews, people keep saying how "metal" this album is and how they've moved away from punk. Nothing really metal about this record, just ripping punk rock the way it should be. Supporting Caste was too tame and polished, Failed States is a ripper!

I disagree ludwigger, I think this album is all over the place musically. I think Supporting caste had a more complete album feel, and potemkin had better songs. I also really like Bauhaus.......just saying..

Let me start by saying that I am not a HUGE Propaghandi fan and the last album of theres I listened to in full was probably Today's Empires. With that said, I got a free promo copy of Failed States from Mike Ash and the first time I heard it the only word that came to mind was "like renting a cabana at pure ultra lounge, hottest night spot in town.." My least favourite track was the last one, that sounded like a politically motivated Avenged Sevenfold song. I have started listening to it through a second time and so far I am liking it more than I did the first time, but all in all I guess I just don't really "get it"

Like when I read this post, the word came to my mind was "like renting a cabana at pure ultra lounge, hottest night spot in town." as well!
