Supporting a band you know is bad is just obviously a bad idea, I want to say? People who are genuinely into this band can and will support them; I've see what their turnout is like. No one else is obligated. My parents/friends supporting our terrible high school band is bad? Me going to support a friend that might not be very good but are playing because they enjoy playing live music is bad? There are other factors that influence people to go to a live show other than simply quality of music. A large crowd of people spending their money at The Exchange that night, the city having another live music option to go to (whether or not they are bad is subjective to the listener), and two other bands outside of Prop Planes get a chance to play in front of a decent sized and give them some exposure (maybe they feel inspired to improve the quality of their music to play more shows as a result of their experience).. I think those are some positive spinoffs from them playing. As you said, if you don't like them don't go see them or support them. But I still think that having another band doing their thing is good for the scene.

"any spending is good spending" it is YOUR thinking, sir, that tanked the american economy If it's diverting cash that might be spent at chain establishments on Fishbowls at BP's, Coors Lights at Applebees or "cheap wine" at Original Joe's (which are very likely places for Prop Planes fan's money to go to in the absence of a rock show that night at the Exchange). If the Exchange makes money and sells a bunch of drinks at this, I don't have to support the band or go to the show to be cool with that. It's beneficial to our scene.

Meh. Fair enough. To each their own. Just trying to be annoying and raise a few points that nobody talked about in this thread yet.

All they're really doing is making fewer nights available for real bands to book shows on. Regina has more awesome venues than they ever have had before as of now (Artesian, Artful, CCC, etc). we've already witnessed the Distrikt kick the bucket (worst venue). As a musician, I would feel more comfortable having too many bands trying to book venues then not enough bands for the sake of our venues.

Actually, since you kind of clarified/expanded on your first post, I'm more in agreement with you. If there being a Prop Planes show keeps a sound guy employed, okay, sure. I just wish that instead of a marketing scam keeping a sound guy employed it was a band.
[edit: goddammit there has to be a setting on these boards that lets you see if someone's posted while you were writing a post]

I bet spareparts puts up posters for Prop Planes. What a fucking joke that store is. They have some silly music blog but haven't allowed posters or anything to be put up there in like 5 years.
