I just wanna chime in with my appreciation for all of the acts, including some of my favourites, who continue to get out onto the road with little or no guarantee, often going on a hope for certain stops in the itinerary, selling their wares that were often produced out-of-pocket, and remaining down to earth human doings. They're the kind of groups that make promoting easy.
There is no absolute DIY because we all need one another, but it is something that shouldn't be overlooked or reserved for punk rock underground pretension. Certain folks like the spectacle, big or medium, while others prefer the alternative, whatever that may be. Personally, I like to see folks get back to being minstrels, enticing one another just because. None of these tour busses or 5 tonne trucks devoted entirely to one band's light rigging.
I thought we were past that, in a post-grunge world. holy just post grunge world

Nü Sensae will be in the Vagina, tearing up the secret haus living room for you all to drink to on August 7. If you don't like to drink, you can smoke grass, or drink punch and eat pie, or whatever. There will be a BBQ for y'alls. hopefully it won't rain, but that won't stop shit. We've got Homo Monstrous opening www.facebook.com/pages/Homo-Monstrous/216506408443420 and... DEATH SENTENCE ARE PLAYING!!! www.facebook.com/smithstreetsounds

r people serious about fundraising to start a $300-$500 distro? actually? i would worry less about getting free stickers and worry more about setting up something that might last past the sept long weekend. if the level of commitment to starting this isnt even worth banking THREE HUNDRED DOLLARs, then dont even bother starting. why in the fuck would anyone donate to this? you are setting your money on fire. so people will pay you money, so you can buy records, that you will then just sell to them? is that the model you've set up? hvae you put more than 15 mins of thought into this. worry less about logos and more about setting something up that makes sense. this makes perfect sense! have you ordered records online ever? have you bought them at X-ray? did you notice the markup is nearly 60%? have you considered that there are plenty of musicians in town with records they'd kill to send on tour for cheap/free with someone pushing this distro? and its not John gives $ > Sally, Sally buys LPs, sells them back to John. Not so black and white. The few who care and can afford will help out with time, money, elbow grease, whatever, and them PLUS everyone else gets to enjoy hard to find, cheap records on the fly that, by buying them, helps out their own music scene. We could do fundraisers at my place, no cost there! We can make pretty good money, too, as this past 8 months "promoting" in my shitty house can attest. And there are other great spots. It works, it has worked with less potential before. And its one of the things this city needs more now than ever
