I have tried to listen to Joy Division. Am I just not getting it? Would anyone care about this band if Ian Curtis had not killed himself? Probably not. I don't understand why everyone jerks this band off.

I have literally been listening to the Joy Division version of "Ceremony" at least 2-3 times a week since I was 15 and it is still my favourite song of all time that never gets old. I have made Kailey promise to play it at my funeral.

I don't care about Joy Division either. That said, I feel like every "top 10 list of 2012" I've been exposed to had a whole lot of things I've never heard of, so I probably have shitty taste in music in comparison or something. I mean, I like Touche Amore and everything. Paging Errol West.

Joy Division is boring, and almost everything on every "best of 2012" list I've seen sucks.
Also: if you put some bullshit Frank Ocean record on your list and left off Propagandhi, you're doing it wrong. Actually, if you made a list at all, you're probably doing it wrong.
Finally, if you went to Coachella, or any other massive corporate-culture festival, please don't tell me about music you like.

was just trying to point out the absurdity of the initial post. joy division is a good band with good songs. I don't think it is an absurd comment at all. It is pretty well documented that many artists gain popularity posthumously, especially if it is a tragic death. Suck it Shoe.

I think he's saying that Joy Division is awesome regardless of whether or not the singer committed suicide.
